<![CDATA[Out and Kicking!]]>Fri, 13 Dec 2013 17:12:37 GMThttp://authormathildewatson.weebly.com/my-blog/out-and-kicking Picture
There aren’t many things crazier than climbing onto the back of an 1800 pound bull.

Throwing yourself in front of one though? Yeah, I think that qualifies.

Bullfighters typically work in three man teams, keeping in a triangle formation around the bull so someone is always in a position jump between the bull and the rider when things start to go south. They keep themselves moving and in the bull’s sightlines to distract the animal from the rider, saving lives and occasionally taking hits...

MISCHIEF CORNER BOOKS has released their third anthology, HOT OFF THE RANGE, a collection of five cowboy themed stories including one from me-- BULL!

About Bull:

Shy, awkward, and overweight, Roland Paulson wasn’t the kind of man who attracted a lot of amorous attention. His romantic life consisted of a series of short lived flings and one night stands with other men who were just as desperate. When propositioned by a charming cowboy with the body of a god, he expected sex. He never imagined the wild ride that would follow.

From the moment Dodge Bramen set eyes on the adorable red-head he wanted him. And Dodge was a man who gets what he wants. He had no trouble luring the guy into his bed, but keeping him there was a different story. Deep kept secrets and unexpected discoveries could either shatter their bond or break it.

Curious? How about a peek inside?

Excerpt:

Roland sat in the booth across from Dodge, toying with his napkin and silverware. The server had taken their orders and the poor guy hadn’t managed a complete sentence since. Dodge leaned back in his chair and spread his legs wide, getting comfortable while he admired his quiet dinner companion. He caught a flash of those gorgeous green eyes peeking up at him through his long lashes. Dodge smiled and Roland’s face colored again. Beautiful.

Having such a strong effect on the hotel manager made Dodge feel like a king. He’d seen the guy at work earlier. He had handled himself with confidence and authority when dealing with the jackass in the lobby. He made things happen and got things done. His employees obviously respected and admired him; he could tell by the deference they paid him. Roland Paulson was a successful businessman, the kind who presumably couldn’t be easily rattled.

Dodge had him by the balls. Roland obviously wanted him. He just needed to lure the reticent man out of his clothes, er, shell.

Dodge couldn’t help grinning at the thought. He shifted his left leg to the side, brushing his shin against Roland’s.

“Sorry.” Roland jerked his leg away, but he also looked up. Dodge shrugged and winked.

Roland bit his bottom lip, then set down the silverware. Finally, he cleared his throat and asked, “So, Dodge, what do you do for a living?”

Finally! Dodge sat up in his chair and rested his arms on the edge of the table, leaning forward.

“I’m a bullfighter.”

Dodge raised his head just a little bit higher. Whenever he wanted to impress a guy, talking about his job usually did the trick. He noticed Roland’s gaze had drifted down from his face, so he flexed the muscles in his arms and his pecs. Roland licked his lips and Dodge dropped his hand to his lap, feeling the sudden need to adjust things behind his zipper. Oh yeah, he had him. It was only a matter of time before he’d have this man wrapped around his cock and screaming his name.

“Bullshit.”

“What?”

Dodge sat back and stared at Roland, stunned. Roland shook his head.

“Bull fighting isn’t legal in the United States. It’s inhumane!” Roland’s voice quaked, but he had fire behind his eyes as he stared Dodge down.

Dodge barked out a surprised laugh.

“No, no, no! You’ve got the wrong idea. I didn’t say I was a matador, that’s a whole different animal.”

Roland tilted his head and frowned. Dodge took a quick sip of his ice water, then forged on with his explanation.

“I work the professional rodeo circuit, the bull riding events. My job is to protect the riders from getting trampled by the bulls after they come off their backs.”

Roland’s expression softened, but the frown remained. “So, you’re a rodeo clown?”

Dodge let his head fall forward, dropping his chin onto his chest with a heavy sigh. Damn Hollywood! He took a deep breath and looked Roland in the eyes. “No. The clown is the guy who entertains the audience between rides. I work in a three-man team to distract the bull and protect the riders once they get thrown. There isn’t anything funny about what I do.”

The faintest hint of a smile turned up the corners of Roland’s lips. “So, you’re a real cowboy?”

Dodge grinned, perking back up. “The toughest kind there is.”

“Tougher than the riders?” Roland teased.

“Hell, yeah! Those guys just climb on a bull’s back and try to hold on for eight seconds. When the beast finally throws ’em and they go flying off ass over teakettle into the dirt, I rush in and put myself between those dizzy yahoos and eighteen hundred pounds of rage and muscle.”

Dodge punched a fist into his other hand for emphasis. Roland ducked his head, shy and blushing again. Dodge hummed with satisfaction, confident he had the man suitably impressed now.

Oh, yes. He was so getting laid!
